October 2021 - #095 - Post Pandemic Weight Loss Apps

Hi Everyone and Welcome to our October Newsletter

It’s been almost two years since the covid 19 pandemic has taken over our lives and the world in so many negative ways.

And yes, a whole lot of us have experienced unwanted weight gain during this time (apparently more than 40% of the population).

So one great tool to help us in these modern times are weight loss apps.

Why do they work so well?

Probably because most of us don’t go anywhere without our phones today.

Here are some popular weight loss apps you can choose from to help you get started.

Noom

Noom uses psychology, artificial intelligence and behavioral therapy to help personalize a weight loss journey that is right for you.

Each plan is individualized, and the recommended duration of the program is based on the amount of weight you want to lose.

It helps you build healthier habits and also offers support groups, activities and much more that can enhance your experience.

I believe it comes with a 14 day trial, but you may want to double check that.

The cost to join Noom is $59 a month.

myWW

Formerly know as Weight Watchers the WW program still uses their successful point system for weight loss.

That means each food is given a number of points depending on it’s calories, sugar, protein and fat content.

Then what you eat and drink daily must stay within your points limit.

This program also offers more than just counting calories (points), such as help in coaching, workouts, meditations and sleep.

You can use the myWW app starting as low as $3.69 a week which includes:

• Customized weight-loss and wellness plan

• Tracking tools including barcode scanner

• Recipe database and restaurant finder

• Guided workouts and meditations

• Weekly check-in and progress report

• Track your sleeping habits to help you de-stress

• Track your water intake

Weight Watchers price range can go up to over $8.00 per week depending on the plan and additional options you choose to add on such as workshops or coaching.

Presently WW is offering a 30 day free trial, but for those of you interested in this program you may want to double check on that.

My Net Diary

This app is totally free and is a calorie counter and weight loss assistant. When you get on their site it says its program can offer the following help:

- Find a diet that suits your lifestyle

- Sets targets

- You can log meals and exercise activities

- Has easy tracking

- Offers recipes, insights and guidance

The MyNetDiary has gotten good reviews for what it provides considering it is a free app.

My Fitness Pal

MyFitnessPal offers a free tracker system which lets you track all your food, calories, activities and weight loss.

Then there is a premium membership for $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year.

With the premium program you get all the tracking features as mentioned above, plus the following:

Discussion forums

Meal planning and recipes

Personalize your goals

Nutrition tracking

Customize carbs, protein and fat goals

Guided fitness and nutrition plans

Subtract exercise calories

Also MyFitnessPal lets you stay on any diet you are on such as the the South Beach Diet, Atkins, the Zone and more.

So no matter what diet you are on, this program will support you and can help.

Lose It

This app is very similar to the myfitnesspal as it has a free app that helps you track the foods you love to help you lose weight.

And just like myfitnesspal it also has a premium membership for $9.99 monthly or $39.99 a year.

They have a team of experts that verify the nutrition information of foods in their database.

You can sync the app with other weight loss and fitness apps, including Apple Health and Google Fit.

These two apps (myfitnesspal and loseit) seem very competitive and you will probably need a little time to investigate which one would be better suited for you.

Fooducate

Fooducate is an easy to use and free smartphone app that helps you make healthier food choices. It helps you to achieve your diet, health and fitness goals easier by getting you product information with ease.

This app helps you scan the bar code of a package or search a food item, which in return gives you its nutritional benefits, or lack thereof, so that you may eat better, lose weight and get healthy.
