June Issue # 019 - Do a Liver Detox and Jump Start Your Weight Loss

Doing a liver detox is one of the most effective ways to help achieve weight loss success.

Simply because improved liver function and weight loss go hand in hand.

I believe that one of the most important weight loss tools is gained by improving liver function.

Doing a liver detox is a great way to increase metabolism and destroy fat.

It is not just for weight loss, a detox also helps clean your other organs, glands and the bloodstream.

You will feel more energized with an added sparkle in your eyes, glowing skin and the desire to live life with extra passion.

It's a great way to achieve extra energy for other activities you like to enjoy.

So I've created a list of things we can do to help cleanse the liver.

Pick and choose the ones that suit your lifestyle the best and do as many as you can and soon you will be enjoying the health benefits they offer.

Deep Breathing Exercises:

These exercises can be done easily almost anywhere and anytime and they really do make a difference.

Okay, call me lazy, but this one is my favorite because it is so easy to do.

This concept was created by motivational speaker, Anthony Robbins. I heard it years ago on one of his tape sets he created called "Personal Power".

It not only helps you to detox but also helps clear the mind and increase energy levels.

Anthony found that just 15 minutes of deep breathing would give him all the energy he needed for the whole day. That's pretty cool.

Also amazing is that over 70 % of waste by products are eliminated through our breathing and skin.

How to do the breathing exercises:

Anthony Robbins states your breathing ratio should be 1 (inhale) to 4 (hold) to 2 (exhale). Use this ratio to choose how many seconds are right for you.

I happen to use this ratio below:

Breath in through your nose for 5 seconds
Hold that breath of air for 20 seconds
Exhale slowly through your mouth for 10 seconds
(Repeat 10 times)

You can do this as many times a day as you like and doing it outdoors is even better to enjoy and benefit from fresh air.

Tip:

Before starting your breathing exercises take a few big breaths in and out to help prepare your lungs.

Benefits of Deep Breathing:

Increases oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.
Helps eliminate toxins.
Gives you more energy.

Tips Continued:

Take a hot bath with sea salt

This is usually nice before bed time. A hot bath opens up the pores and helps the skin release toxins.

Avoid body Lotion

After taking a hot bath or shower, avoid using any body lotion for a few hours or preferably overnight.
This lets your pores breath better which also helps release more toxins.

Lymphatic Drainage

When in the shower or bath gently scrub your outer thigh in one direction towards the heart.
This helps increase the circulation and also increases toxin flow out of the body (known as massage lymphatic drainage).

Exercise

Choose the physical activity that works best for you. The good thing is that all physical activity boosts circulation and helps release toxins.

Fast for a few hours

Try not to eat anything after 7 p.m. (or even a little earlier) until the next day. This helps increase the body's ability to detox.

When you fast there is no food to break down so all energies of the body help detoxify.

When you are hungry your body is cleansing itself, which aids in weight loss.

Do you ever get that rumbling hungry feeling in your tummy?

Well that feeling is actually a good thing. When we have less food in our tummies our bodies are in cleaning mode.

Toxins are being eliminated and calories are being burned. It’s always a good thing to be hungry for at least an hour or two (or more) if you can manage it.

A Little History

I Love This Little Bit of History.

Take Dr. Clive McCay for example. He was a professor at Cornell University. He was best known for proving that restricting calorie intake increased the life span of rats. His studies showed that eating less promoted longevity.

In one experiment he took a group of rats and cut their food intake by half. The result was that those rats doubled their life span compared to the group of rats that ate twice as much.

Similar studies have proven that this applies to humans as well. Less food intake slows down the aging process.

So what does all this mean? We don’t need to eat a lot; we just need to eat smart. This way our bodies efficiently use the nutrients it needs without long digestion and weight gain.

To keep liver function at its optimum, avoid the following:

An Improper Diet

That would be a diet that is low in protein and high in carbohydrates and fats.

Avoid fried foods, saturated fats, junk foods, processed foods, refined white flour products and white sugar products.

These types of food have been depleted of natural vitamins, minerals and enzymes.

Overeating

Overeating is probably the most common cause of liver malfunction. It creates excess work for the liver, resulting in liver fatigue.

In addition, the liver must detoxify all of the various chemicals present in our food supply today. When the liver is overworked, it may not detoxify harmful substances properly.

Avoid Stimulants, they are not nutrients.

Stimulants such as coffee, chocolate, white sugar, alcohol, artificial sweeteners and tobacco.

They do stimulate us, but provide no benefits, they just overwhelm the liver.

Alcohol is particularly toxic to the liver when consumed in excessive amounts. The liver begins to lose its functional capacity.

By improving liver function you will achieve more than just weight loss, you will start to cleanse your body, mind and spirit.

Additional Tips:

Drink lots of water
Have a glass of lemon water on an empty stomach
Enjoy an abundance of liver loving foods
Eat Clean such as homemade soups and salads
